Donald and Melania Trump Attend Traditional Inauguration Day Church Service with Family Members
President-elect Donald Trump, incoming First Lady Melania Trump and other family members are attending the traditional Inauguration Day church service at St. John’s Episcopal Church, a short walk from the White House, Friday morning.
The family was joined by about 300 fellow worshipers, per CNN. The Trumps traveled to the church from the presidential guest quarters at Blair House, where they spent the night with their family. They departed shortly after 8:30 p.m., and traveled the short distance by SUV in a light drizzle.
The service is a tradition for incoming presidents on Inauguration Day morning, dating back to 1933 when Franklin Delano Roosevelt attended a service with his wife, Eleanor. Most modern incoming presidents chose to have their service at St. John’s.
