Kenneth Omeruo is expected to be fit for selection when Nigeria face South Africa today Wednesday, (November 19, 2014) and when Middlesbrough travel to Wigan at the weekend.
The 21-year-old defender sat out Nigeria’s 2-0 Africa Cup of Nations Group A qualifying win against Congo on Saturday.
After checking with the Super Eagles’ medical staff, the English Championship side have confirmed that Omeruo was rested as a precaution due to a minor niggle and is available to play South Africa in Uyo on Wednesday night.
This will be good news for Stephen Keshi, as Omeruo will be an automatic replacement for Godfrey Oboabona, who will miss the Bafana tie due to cautions.
However, the fact that Omeruo won’t return to the UK until Thursday following a draining schedule with Nigeria during the international break is being frowned at by Middlesbrough.
