Oscar Pistorius To Be Released On Parole In August
South African Olympic and Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius is set to be released from prison on parole in August after serving 10 months for culpable homicide in the killing of his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, a family member said.
“Oscar will be released on parole by the end of August,” a Pistorious family member who did not want to be named told Reuters.
Pistorius started his five year sentence in October last year.
The announcement came as South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal set November for prosecutors to appeal Pistorius’ acquittal on a murder charge for shooting Ms Steenkamp.
The court did not fix an exact date but said it would be in November.
Pistorius was convicted of culpable homicide, similar to manslaughter, and sentenced to five years in jail last year for killing Ms Steenkamp in 2013.
Prosecutors appealed, saying the double-amputee Olympic athlete should have been found guilty of murder.
Supreme Court of Appeal registrar Paul Myburgh said on Monday that chief prosecutor Gerrie Nel and defence lawyer Barry Roux have met with the president of the court.
